The ventilation grills provide the necessary air flow so the birds feel comfortable in the nest but not exposed to drafts. The molded plastic is easy to clean and with the built-in lip the birds do not kick the shavings out of the nest. Manufacturer recommends putting wood shavings or excelsior nest pads in the bottom.
